Keke Napep Rider & Trader Arrested With N575m Worth of Heroin At Lagos Airport

A commercial tricycle rider in Owerri and an Abuja based trader have been arrested by officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA) Lagos over unlawful importation of 6.390kg of substances that tested positive for heroin.

One of the suspected traffickers was caught on arrival from Kigali, Rwanda while the other was nabbed on arrival from Nairobi, Kenya.

The drug valued at N575million was said to be hidden in their luggage.

The suspects, according to NDLEA Commander at the Airport, Ahmadu Garba, are Egwin Cajetan Chinedu, 32 who was caught with 3.900kg of heroin and King Sunday, 38 who was in possession of 2.490kg of heroin.

Egwin reportedly arrived on a Rwand Air flight from Kigali, Rwanda while the other suspect who was arriving from Nairobi Kenya was caught during inward screening of passengers on an Ethiopian Airline flight.

Meanwhile, the NDLEA stated that preliminary investigation showed that drug trafficking cartels are gradually changing their mode of operation by turning to African countries in sourcing narcotic drugs like heroin.

Ofoyeju Mitchell quoted the Chairman/Chief Executive of the NDLEA, Col Muhammad Abdallah as stressing that drug traffickers are now turning toAfrican countries to smuggle heroin that is produced in Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Thailand and other far away countries.

Chinedu who is not married told investigators that he needed money to repair his tricycle while Sunday said he left his wife after four days of marriage to go for a business trip in order to raise money for his honeymoon and business.
