Nigerian Lawyer Who Was Brutally Beaten & Stabbed In the US, Dies After 6years In Coma
38-year-old Nigerian lawyer, Akeem Olakunle Ajimotokan, who was stabbed in New York, United States, on January 20, 2011 - died yesterday October 31, at Methodist Hospital, Sugarland, Texas.
Ajimotokan has been in hospital for six years.
The New York Times reported that Ajimotokan,, who was aged 33 at the time of his attack, was found by the police in the early hours of January 21, tied up and unconscious in the boot of his car.
He was brutally beaten up and stabbed, his ear partly severed.
Since then, he has been in a coma. Although it was reported at some point by his brother, a Houston doctor, that he was moving his hands and legs.
Ajimotokan had put up his electric blue BMW M3 coupe up for sale on the internet. It is believed the suspected attacker had posed as a prospective buyer for the car.
The deceased’s elder brother, Bolaji, who is a politician, described his youngest brother as a brilliant lawyer with a “large heart”.
“I’m glad he has gone to rest,” he said.
Since the news of his death broke on Facebook, the family has received an outpouring of e-mails, calls and messages from around the world.
His funeral holds on Saturday, at 1818 Eldridge Rd, Sugarland, Texas.
